Diabetes and sex is a difficult subject for many men and couples to talk out loud about. This is a rising issue that needs to be discussed. As much as we don't want to talk about our sex life, I'm here to talk to you privately, with experience from our own journey.
The big questions:
Can diabetes affect sex?
Impotence and diabetes, does it really happen?
Can diabetes affect sex drives?
Yes, yes and yes.
So, the big question, how does diabetes affect sex? If you are not managing your diabetes then it will affect so many different body parts and yes, that includes your penis. If sugar levels are inconsistent and you aren't managing them from highs and lows, over time you will lose the ability to get hard.
This is hard to talk about, bringing the bedroom out into the open, but it is so important to talk to your doctor. This is nothing to be ashamed of or hide. Talk to your spouse and doctor.
But the most crucial thing you can do to improve the outcome is to get your diabetes under control. This has to happen or your diabetes will affect sex in the long run. Many think "this would never happen to me" but, diabetes doesn't pick favorites, diabetes doesn't care who you are.
